Kalkan Villas
for rent
It has more and better beaches and resorts than does the Aegean coast, and warmer, saltier water than the Black Sea coast.. The Taurus (Toros) Mountains form a dramatic backdrop along much of the coast, often dropping steeply right into the sea, but in some places rivers have washed down enough sediment over the ages to form beaches backed by fertile alluvial plains good for growing cotton, vegetables, and even tropical fruits like bananas.

A beautiful, traditional style Turkish townhouse in the hear of Kalkan Old Town. Unlike many villas and apartments in Kalkan which are situated on the outskirts of Kalkan, our property is nestled on a quiet side street in the heart of Kalkan, ensuring that shops, restaurants and bars are only a one minute stroll away. Kalkan harbour and the town beach are just a genuine two to three minute walk from the house. Set on a peaceful residential street, the Old Quarter Townhouse has a private swimming pool and terrace with views out to the harbour and islands beyond. On the ground floor there is a large open plan living area with comfortable sofas and a dining table and chairs. There is a flatscreen TV in the living area with DVD player and also a music system with speakers. Set to the back of the living area is the fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge freezer, kettle and toaster. A washing machine is located in an alcove on the ground floor. On the first floor there are 3 bedrooms- 1 master ensuite double, a further double and a single bedroom. These two bedrooms share a shower room. Steps lead up to the top floor where there is a small utility are and access onto a large private roof terrace with spectacular uninterrupted views over Kalkan, the harbour and out towards the islands. The roof terrace is ready for outdoor dining with table and chairs, and additional sun loungers for relaxing on. The house is very well equipped, providing you with everything needed for a stress free holiday.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia / region

Turkey's Mediterranean shore, called the Turquoise Coast, is nearly 1600 km (994 miles) long, scattered with fine-sand beaches and sprinkled abundantly with classical cities turned to picturesque ruins. Southwest Turkey, along and inland from the popular "Turquoise Coast", was home to the ancient Lycians who were one of the most enigmatic people of antiquity. Although little historical record has been left behind them, what has been discovered reveals a fascinating people culturally distinct from the rest of the ancient world. Around twenty major sites remain today with the Lycians' unusual funerary architecture dominating the breathtaking unspoiled land of Lycia.

Kalkan / Central Kalkan area

The Kalkan area

Kalkan is an elegant harbour town set in the heart of the old Lycian region. It is cosmopolitan, with wonderful restaurants and great places to stay. The Taurus Mountains provide a stunning backdrop, whilst the views across the bay are remarkable. This beautiful and sophisticated bougainvillea-covered harbour town is set in a breathtaking landscape in the heart of the Turquoise Coast. Tourism is still relatively new in Kalkan, with the first visitors being yachtsmen who discovered the delights of the harbor and the town in the late 1980's.Strict conservation laws have ensured that the heart of the old village retains an authentic ambience that attracts (according to the Sunday Times) the sort of visitor who might also be enchanted by, say, Tuscany or the Dordogne. The result is a discerning mix of predominantly British guests together with Istanbul Turks attracted by Kalkan's reputation within Turkey. Winding cobbled streets, colourful shops and excellent harbour-side or roof terrace restaurants and bars are combined with stunning views – whether you are looking up to the dramatic Toros mountains behind the town, or down across the harbour to the broad sweep of the Mediterranean.
